books and podcasts
"Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts" by Les Parrott, and "You and Me Forever" by Francis and Lisa Chan
“The Five Love Languages” written by Gary Chapman. This book taught us ways to love one another in the way that we feel the most loved. We continue to check on one another and often ask, “How is your love tank?” I would recommend it to any couple to better understand the way your spouse feels loved most!
"Revive our Hearts" by Nancy DeMoss. Specifically, she taught a series on Titus 2 that really helped prepare my heart and mind for marriage by aligning them to scripture.
We were living in different cities during our engagement, so we read "31 Prayers for my Future Husband" and "31 Prayers for my Future Wife" via FaceTime each night leading up to the wedding. I was also reading the "Lipstick Gospel" devotional and using the prayer journal by Stephanie May Wilson (I love her podcast too!)
"Things I Wish I'd Known Before We Got Married" by Gary Chapman.
We did pre-marital work with a book called "Saving Your Marriage Before it Starts". It sounds kind of funny but totally something I would recommend ANY couple! It's a book you read together and then you have a workbook for each person. It lead to incredible conversations and I feel like our first year of marriage has been so smooth because of it.
a tip from grace ann!
During our honeymoon, Ben and I read "You and Me Forever" by Francis & Lisa Chan. We read the chapters individually (a lot of times by the pool!) and then talked about the discussion questions together. It set such a solid foundation for our marriage right at the beginning and challenged our relationship in a whole new, exciting way! We also read "Things I Wish I'd Known Before We Got Married" while we were engaged.
